My Philosophy of Education...
My Philosophy of Education is fairly simple it is based on the belief that students are the core of education and it is up to educators to develop the them as a whole. Teachers should be the motivator, leader and support for students. Without education, our world would not be as advanced as it is today because people would only comprehend certain concepts. Education plays a significant role in our daily lives whether you are a CEO or someone who works at a fast food restaurant, you must have some education.
I consider education and effective teachers to go hand in hand when it comes to molding a successful student. A teacher must assume the role of a facilitator which is in accordance with Progressive thinking. Learning through first-hand experiences is the absolute best way to learn and prepare for the real world. The most influential fact behind Progressivism is the emphasis of learning by doing. I have learned that when you make mistakes you are truly learning right from wrong and it will assist with problem solving. Giving back to the community will help shape a student's character and it will aide them in appreciating what they have and what is going on in the world around them.
I do feel strongly that there are certain elements that should be taught to all students because they are very important to live our world. For example, manners should always be taught and emphasized in a classroom because they are the stepping stone for respect and organization in a classroom. I, on the other hand do not feel as though we should just stick with certain concepts and never move forward with our curriculum because we are always evolving and advancing. Incorporating technology on a daily basis is great for motivating digital natives to work hard and places them on the cutting edge.
I feel strongly that children should be able to embrace their individuality. If young students are constantly told they have to follow certain rules without any way of expressing themselves, then they will never find something that they enjoy about school. The very idea of school can become monotonous for children but it is a teacher’s role to make learning and attending school; fun and engaging.
In congruence, the ideas behind Existentialism are very similar to my belief that children should be considered individuals, seeing as everyone is unique. If schools continue with the idea that there should be absolutely no leeway when it comes to students learning differently, then children will never find school to be a pleasant experience. I strongly agree with the fact that students should be able to know learn about themselves and see what their strengths are in order to grow.
My personal philosophy of education consists of the teacher being a facilitator, students should be able to learn from experiences and by making mistakes and overcoming obstacles. Furthermore, I believe that teaching manners to children is a vital concept that should be encouraged to all generations in order to form an overall respectful student. I also know that there will always be a core curriculum that must be taught throughout our system of education. However; if students are able to develop as individuals and teaching is tailored to their specific needs then, school and learning will become meaningful and fun for all students.
