Instructions Handout
Each student received a handout as we reviewed expectations and deadlines for each element of the project. This was also used as a rubric to grade the final brochure.
Westward Expansion Journals
After each reading students would add information, reading response, or do some kind of activity in their Westward Expansion journal.
Graphic Organizers: Research
Students used various websites and information from Dear Levi to fill in a graphic organizer that we folded and labeled together. Sections included Landmarks, Reasons People Moved to the West, What People are Saying, and Hardships.
Brochures
Once each student finished conducting and compiling research onto the graphic organizer they were approved to start working on their digital brochure. I created the brochure template in Microsoft Word and uploaded it the the Student (S) drive. Students logged onto a laptop and were able to download the template and start adding the information they found.
